Taj Mahal, Agra, IndiaThis relaxing 9-day trip is the perfect introduction to India. The itinerary is based around the classic Golden Triangle cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur where you get a real feal for the, ancient, exotic and chaotic culture that is India, not to mention seeing the iconic Taj Mahal. However, we have also added in some other fascinating sites, including the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri, a cycle rickshaw ride in Keoladeo National Park, a fun elephant ride to the Amber Fort and a tour through the arid Shekhawati region in the desert state of Rajasthan which really gives you a feel for some less touristy parts of India . Accommodation is in a mix of modern 5-star hotels in Delhi and Agra, and some of Rajasthan's famous heritage hotels in Jaipur and Shekhawati built around former forts and palaces. Optional extras include an evening elephant safari and dinner in Jaipur, a spectacular hot air balloon flight, several extra sightseeing options in Jaipur, and extensions after the tour finishes to the beach at Goa or to explore more of northern India.

Our trips feature a mix of different transport options. We want you to feel like you’re really experiencing the country you’re travelling through, but at the same time finish journeys refreshed enough to enjoy the next stage of the tour. Due to the somewhat chaotic nature of Indian roads, we only use private vehicles for all road journeys.

The tour includes a 24-hour airport meet & assist service in Delhi airport, your arrival and departure airport-hotel transfers and all other transfers.

We are committed to being a small group operator, as we feel this gives everyone in the group the best chance to get to know their fellow travellers and to hear and make the most of their guide. There’s no point in us providing great guides if you’ve got to peer over 30-40 shoulders to see them! So, we won’t ever put you in a 50-seater coach with 49 other people and just one guide. Instead, we set our India group departures to have a maximum of 18 travellers. The minimum group size is just 2.
For groups of 6 and more travellers a fully trained, local English-speaking tour guide will accompany you throughout the tour. Specialist local guides may also be used for some of the sightseeing tours and national park activities. In the rare event that the group size is just 2 to 5 travellers, an escort driver with decent English will accompany you throughout the tour and specialist local guides are used at each site.
At Encounters Travel we have a policy of only using local Indian guides and reps. We feel this gives you the best experience of the country and the sites you are seeing.

The tour price does not include entrance fees to the tourist sites mentioned in the itinerary. You should allow approx. US$58 per person to cover these (this includes one visit to the Taj Mahal). You will also need to cover the cost of entrance to any other extra sites that you may wish to visit that are not listed in the main tour itinerary.

Tipping is common practice in India, as a sign of appreciation for services provided. You may therefore wish to tip your guide and driver at the end of the tour. You should not feel obliged to tip any particular amount, and should consider your personal budget. We are often asked to provide a guide however, and will provide you with more information and suggested amounts in our pre-departure pack.

For up to date health information & vaccination requirements for India we recommend that you contact your GP or a travel clinic (1st Contact travel clinic gives free advice tel. 0800 0393073).
General vaccination recommendations for India include Cholera, Diphtheria, Hepatitis A & B, Japanese B Encephalitis, Malaria prophylactics, Meningitis, Polio, Tetanus & Typhoid
