Whilst Greece has experienced periods of unrest in recent years, the country is still safe for tourists with most crime being small, petty crimes(pickpocketing and scams). As with any destination, it is always important to take precautions.
The currency used in Greece is the euro. In main cities, credit and debit cards can be used, but we suggest carrying cash for the more rural destinations.
Greece is best experienced in spring and early summer (mid-April to mid-June) or autumn (September to mid-October). During this time of the year, the temperature is not as scorching and there are fewer crowds.
The tipping customs in Greece vary and, in some restaurants, the service charge is added to the bill. However, tipping does remain a common practice, especially in tourist areas.
Greece lies in Eastern European Time, which is two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. During summer, daylight-savings is observed in Greece and time is shifted forward by one hour.
Planning a trip to Greece depends entirely on your own individual interests and travel goals. If you are looking to avoid crowds and the heat, then the seasons of Autumn, Winter and early Spring would be the ideal times to visit. A trip to one of Greece’s beautiful beach destinations is also not to be missed during a trip to the country, treat yourself with a few days in Santorini, Mykonos or Crete.
