Tozeur Medina to Mountain Oases and Desert Canyons

Start in Tozeur's old quarter and irrigation setting, then travel by 4x4 through Chebika, Tamerza and Mides to experience mountain oases, waterfalls and canyon landscapes. Continue to Ong Jemel and the Star Wars site before making your way back to Tozeur. The day takes you beyond the city into a varied desert circuit, combining oasis scenery with distinctive film-location surroundings.

  • Mides → Ong Jemel Leave the mountains behind and drive into the desert toward Ong Jemel. The road leads into open sandy and rocky terrain used as a film location.
  • Ong Jemel Explore Ong Jemel, a rock formation and desert area famous as a Star Wars filming site. Enjoy wide views of the surrounding dunes and plateaus.

After visiting the lake’s panoramic viewpoints, the route continues toward the desert gateway town of Douz. Here, the atmosphere shifts from open salt plains to the edge of the Sahara, with the lively Douz souk offering an authentic glimpse into local trading traditions. Together, the sequence blends geological wonder, cultural encounters, and the gradual transition into Tunisia’s southern desert world.
