Why book the Indian Family Adventure tour?
Indian Family Adventure is a 10-day circuit designed specifically for families with children aged 6 to 16. Starting in Delhi, you take a rickshaw through the labyrinthine streets of Chandni Chowk, visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise, sleep in a heritage hotel in Dolphur and experience village life, search for Bengal tigers in Ranthambore on two shared canter safaris, explore the Pink City of Jaipur through Amber Fort and Jantar Mantar, do a block printing workshop, and have dinner cooked with a local family. Maximum 12 per group, 4-star and heritage hotels throughout.
Is this tour suitable for first-time family visitors to India?
Yes. The itinerary is designed to introduce children and adults to India's core experiences without being overwhelming. The Golden Triangle route (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur) is well established and supported by excellent local guides. Activities like the rickshaw ride, Taj Mahal sunrise, school visit, and tiger safari are specifically chosen to be engaging for children and memorable for adults.
What makes this different from your other India tours?
Indian Family Adventure is the only India tour we offer designed specifically for families with children. It differs from Incredible India or Rajasthan Explorer by including child-specific experiences: a village school interaction, the Abhaneri Step Well (featured in Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), tiger safari canters, and a block printing workshop with kids in mind. Child discounts apply and the pace is calibrated for family energy levels. The minimum child age is 6 and the maximum is 16.
What is the best time of year to do this tour?
October to March is the most comfortable season for the Golden Triangle, with temperatures between 15-30 degrees C. The tiger-watching season at Ranthambore is October to June, with the park fully open outside the monsoon. During the monsoon (July to September), zones 1-5 of Ranthambore are closed but zones 6-10 remain accessible and still offer good tiger sightings. The tour runs year-round with regular family departures.
Why does this tour cost what it does?
We get it, you can find cheaper India packages. The difference is in the accommodation (4-star heritage properties including the Dolphur palace hotel and a Jaipur homestay), the family-specific activities that require specialist arrangement (Ranthambore canter safaris must be pre-booked and are in high demand), the Mughal Heritage Walk through Kachhpura village, the home-cooked dinner with a Jaipur family, and services of a dedicated family guide throughout. Child discounts help make the family total more manageable.
What is actually included in the price?
Included: all accommodation in 4-star heritage hotels and homestay, all AC transport and transfers, 24-hour airport arrival and departure service, sightseeing tours and activities as listed, Delhi tour with rickshaw ride and street food, Agra Mughal Heritage Walk and Taj Mahal visit, Dolphur village experience, Ranthambore shared canter game drives, Jaipur Amber Fort, city tour, craft workshop and family dinner, entrance fees for included sites, specialist local guides, 9 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 4 dinners.
What is NOT included
and how much extra should I budget?
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. Pay a deposit to hold your dates and the balance 8 weeks before departure. A reserve-now-pay-later option is also available.
How physically demanding is this tour for families?
Easy to moderate. The Taj Mahal sunrise visit involves early morning timing but minimal walking. The Ranthambore canter safaris are bumpy rides on open vehicles. Amber Fort in Jaipur involves climbing on cobbled paths. The Abhaneri Step Well has 3,500 steps visible but you are not expected to descend all of them. The tour is designed to be achievable for children aged 6 and above.
Is the tour suitable for children aged 6-10?
Yes. Children from age 6 are welcome. The rickshaw ride, Taj Mahal, tiger safari, and block printing workshop tend to be the highlights for younger children. Long driving days between cities can be tiring for small children, so pack entertainment. The private minibus allows flexibility for breaks.
What if a family member has mobility issues?
Most sites on this tour involve some walking, and several (including Amber Fort and the Agra monuments) have uneven stone surfaces and steps. Share any mobility concerns with us before booking and we can advise on what is and is not accessible. An AC minibus throughout makes transfers comfortable.
How hot does it get in India on this tour?
Summer (April to June) in the Golden Triangle is very hot, often 40+ degrees C. October to February is comfortable at 15-30 degrees. March and early April are pleasant. If travelling in summer, plan Taj Mahal visits early morning before the heat peaks, drink plenty of water, and use high-factor sunscreen.
Is India safe for families to visit right now?
India is a popular family destination. Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, and Ranthambore are all well-touristed and well-served by experienced guides. Petty theft, vendor pressure in tourist areas, and traffic congestion are the main things to be aware of. Your guide is present throughout most of the tour and will manage any situations that arise.
Is it safe for women travelling in a family group?
Yes. The Golden Triangle is well established for family and solo women travellers. Dress modestly in temples and markets (covering shoulders and knees), and follow your guide's advice in busy areas. India is a country where hospitality to families is a cultural norm and most locals are genuinely helpful.
What happens if someone gets sick on tour?
Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur all have good private hospitals and clinics. Ranthambore is more remote, with the nearest good facility a couple of hours away. Travel insurance with medical cover is compulsory. Keep your insurer's emergency number accessible. Your guide can help coordinate medical assistance.
Will we be hassled by vendors and touts?
Yes, to some degree in Delhi's markets, at the Taj Mahal entrance, and in Jaipur's bazaars. Your guide will help manage this, and a polite but firm no is usually enough. Teaching children how to politely decline is a useful cultural lesson in itself. Ranthambore and Dolphur are quieter and free of tourist pressure.
What is the accommodation actually like?
All accommodation is 4-star heritage or boutique standard. In Delhi you stay at a 4-star city hotel. In Agra a 4-star heritage property. The Dolphur stay is in a heritage palace hotel with genuine character and village surroundings. Ranthambore accommodation is a family-friendly lodge near the park. In Jaipur you stay at a homestay property for an authentic local experience. All have AC rooms and Wi-Fi.
What is the Dolphur heritage hotel like?
Dolphur is a small town off the standard tourist trail, and the heritage hotel there has genuine palace character. The atmosphere is quieter and more authentic than the big Rajasthan cities. It gives children a different experience of India, with the opportunity to explore village surroundings and interact with local people outside the main tourist infrastructure.
Will I have Wi-Fi?
All hotels have Wi-Fi. Ranthambore and Dolphur may have slower connections than the city properties. Mobile data with an Indian SIM card is reliable in cities and patchy in remote areas.
Can I upgrade?
The tour can be booked on a private departure basis with upgraded accommodation in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. Contact us for a private quote.
What kind of food will we eat?
Delhi's street food walk introduces you to chaat, jalebi, and the chaos of Old Delhi's food stalls. The Dolphur heritage hotel serves Rajasthani and Indian dishes. In Jaipur you have a home-cooked dinner with a local family, learning the recipes alongside. The food on this tour is flavourful but not exclusively spicy. Indian cooking has plenty of milder dishes suitable for children. Most hotels also serve continental breakfast options.

Is it safe to drink the water?

The minimum age is 6 years. The maximum age for children eligible for child discounts is 16. Please provide your children's ages at booking so we can confirm pricing.
Do I need a visa for India?
Most nationalities including UK, US, and EU require a visa for India. An e-visa (eTV) is available online and is straightforward to apply for before departure. Apply well in advance of your travel date and check the Indian government's official immigration website for current fees and eligibility.
What should I pack?
Light, modest clothing (covering shoulders and knees for temples and markets). Comfortable walking shoes with good grip for forts and step wells. Children should have their own daypack, sunhat, and water bottle. High-factor sunscreen and insect repellent for Ranthambore. India uses Type C, D, and M sockets at 230 volts. A universal adapter is useful.
Are any vaccinations required?
Recommended vaccinations for India include Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, Tetanus, and Typhoid. Malaria risk exists in some rural areas. Consult your GP or a travel clinic for current recommendations, including appropriate precautions for children. Yellow Fever rules for India are complex, so read the WHO guidance carefully if you are transiting through a Yellow Fever zone.
Do I need to book international flights through you?
No. International flights to Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport are not included. We include the 24-hour airport arrival and departure transfer service. We can suggest flight options on request.

How far ahead should I book?
