With eight of the world's ten highest peaks, Nepal is blessed with spectacular mountain vistas. Trekking in the Everest region is rewarding, not only for its proximity to the world’s highest mountain (8,848m) but also for its friendly Sherpa people, picturesque villages, great variety of cultures and traditions, festivals and monasteries. This trekking tour travels at a relatively relaxed pace and gives you a chance to get right up into the Khumbu region and enjoy great views of Everest and other peaks, while staying in luxury lodges with the best comfort available.
You begin with a walking tour of the narrow back streets and temples of Kathmandu. This lively city is a magnet for travellers from all over the world and a fascinating place to wander around. From Kathmandu you then take a dramatic short flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region.
Your trek starts from Lukla and takes takes you up the Dudh Kosi river valley past many small, picturesque Sherpa villages. The valley slopes are covered with magnificent forests of rhododendron, magnolia and giant firs, and the snow-capped peaks stretch away into the distance. We break for a day in Namche Bazaar, an historical Sherpa trading centre of the Khumbu region, where you will stay for a day to acclimatise to the altitude and perhaps take some day hikes.
From Namche Bazaar you leave the main trekking route to Everest Base Camp and head to Thame, birthplace of many renowned Sherpa mountaineers including Appa and Tenzing Norgay. After another break here, you head further off the beaten track to the Yeti Mountain Home lodge at Kongde which boasts spectacular views across the valley to Namche Bazaar with Thengboche in the distance and the peaks of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam beyond. There's a chance for a hike next morning to the top of Kongde Ri for even more spectacular views, and more day walks or relaxation before you leave and head back to Phakding and Lukla for your flight back to Kathmandu.
The Yeti Mountain Home lodges used on this trek are the best appointed and most comfortable in the Khumbu region, with good restaurants, wines and other drinks available at the bar, and even spa sessions possible in Namche Bazaar.
The tour can be taken at any time of year, though the periods from October to November, and March to May provide the best weather for trekking. You can also extend or shorten the route or duration if you wish, with options available to see discover more of Nepal's cultural highlights, or visit one of its lowland National Parks.

During busy periods, flights to Lukla may depart from Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu. This is a shorter flight, less prone to weather delays, but does require an early start and a 4-hour drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap airport. We will advise you before departure if your flight will depart from Kathmandu or Ramechhap. If this is the case there will be an additional fee of US$50 per vehicle payable in Kathmandu for each journey.
Seasonal prices are given below based on 2 people travelling with one trekking guide and porter. We can also customise the itinerary to fit your personal requirements and the number in your party. Please contact us for more info.
