Why book the ANZAC Day 8 Day tour?
The ANZAC Day 8 Day tour is built around the most moving commemorative event in the Antipodean calendar: the annual Dawn Service at ANZAC Cove and the Australian memorial at Lone Pine and the New Zealand memorial at Chunuk Bair on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The rest of the 8 days are filled with Turkey's greatest ancient sites: Istanbul's Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace, the legendary ruins of Troy (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Roman city of Ephesus, the white calcium terraces of Pamukkale, and the ancient city of Hierapolis with its thermal pools. Groups are capped at 20, rising to a maximum of 45 on dedicated ANZAC Day departures.
Is this tour suitable for first-time visitors to Turkey?
Yes. The itinerary efficiently covers Turkey's most significant ancient and historical sites, from Istanbul's Byzantine and Ottoman heritage to the western Aegean coast. The ANZAC Day commemoration gives the tour a depth of meaning that purely historical tours cannot replicate. It is an excellent first Turkey experience.
What is the difference between this and the other ANZAC tours?
The ANZAC Day 2 Day tour focuses solely on Istanbul and the Gallipoli commemoration. The ANZAC Day 5 Day adds a journey to the Aegean coast as far as Kusadasi. The ANZAC Day 8 Day (this tour) extends to include Ephesus, Pamukkale, Hierapolis, a flight back to Istanbul, and 2 nights at the Aegean coast in Kusadasi. The ANZAC Day 11 Day continues further to add additional sites.
When does this tour depart?
This tour is specifically designed for ANZAC Day and departs to coincide with the April 25 commemoration. Departures arrive at Gallipoli Cove in the afternoon of April 24, spend the night at the Cove for the Dawn Service on April 25, and then continue the tour from Gallipoli. Check the Dates and Prices page for departure dates in the current schedule.
Why does this tour cost what it does?
We get it, you can find cheaper Turkey tours floating around. The ANZAC Day 8 Day tour includes 4 to 5-star hotels throughout (Port Bosphorus Hotel in Istanbul, Ilayda Avantgarde Hotel in Kusadasi), entrance fees to all sightseeing in the itinerary, a domestic flight from Denizli (Pamukkale) back to Istanbul, a tipping kitty, and the unique ANZAC Day commemoration experience which includes overnight at ANZAC Cove. Managing the logistics of ANZAC Day at Gallipoli requires careful pre-planning and expert local knowledge.

How physically demanding is this tour?
This is a moderate-pace sightseeing tour. The ANZAC Cove overnight (the night of April 24) involves spending the night outdoors at the Cove, which requires some resilience in unpredictable April weather. Ephesus and Troy involve walking over ancient marble and stone streets. The Pamukkale terraces involve some careful walking on slippery calcium deposits. No strenuous hiking is required.
What is the ANZAC Cove overnight experience like?
You arrive at Gallipoli Cove in the afternoon of April 24 to visit the museum and secure a good position. You spend the night outdoors at the Cove, waiting for the Dawn Service to begin at 4:30am on April 25. The experience is moving and deeply communal but involves a cold, potentially damp outdoor night. Bring warm layers and comfortable footwear.
What if I have mobility issues?
The overnight at ANZAC Cove is outdoors and involves standing for extended periods during the memorial services. Ephesus has paved paths on ancient street surfaces. Contact us if you have specific concerns and we can advise on which parts of the itinerary present challenges.
Is Turkey safe to visit?
Turkey's western coastal regions and Istanbul, which make up this itinerary, are well-established international tourism destinations visited by millions annually. We operate in these areas routinely and monitor official government travel advisories closely.
Is it safe for women travelling solo?
Yes. The tour is popular with solo travellers including solo women. Dress modestly at religious sites (mosque visits require covered shoulders and knees, women carry a headscarf). The guide and group provide a secure and social environment.
What happens if I get sick on tour?
Your guide carries basic first aid and knows the local medical facilities. Istanbul and Izmir have good private hospitals. Travel insurance is compulsory and must cover emergency medical treatment and repatriation.
What is the accommodation actually like?
Hotels are at the 4 to 5-star level. In Istanbul you stay at Port Bosphorus Hotel, a 111-room property near the Galata Tower with a rooftop terrace and river-view rooms. In Canakkale (for the Gallipoli section) you stay at MD Barbaros Hotel, a well-located 64-room property in the city centre. In Kusadasi for the Ephesus and Aegean section you stay at Ilayda Avantgarde, a 4-star beachfront hotel with a rooftop bar and pool. What kind of food will we eat?
Turkish cuisine is one of the world's finest: meze, freshly baked bread, grilled meats, manti (Turkish dumplings), baklava, and strong Turkish tea and coffee. In Kusadasi you visit the fruit wine-growing village of Sirince and can sample local wines. At Hierapolis you can dip in thermal pools used by the Romans for their healing properties.
