Jordan - a country that has delighted its visitors for centuries with its World Heritage Sites, friendly towns, inspiring desert landscapes, and its hospitable locals.
With a population of roughly 10 million, Jordan has over the years been underestimated by many as too little to offer but, oh how wrong they are.
Most - if not all - who choose to spend time in the majestic country of Jordan soon learns how mistaken they are - from being surprised at the diversity to staggering beauty is only the tip of the iceberg.
From stunning natural landscapes to world-renowned historical and religious sites, Jordan is truly a hidden gem of the Middle East. Jordan will leave you feeling touched by the generosity and kindness of its people.
As more and more people are starting to explore the Middle East, Jordan is soaring in popularity - with seas to floating in, desert communities to stay with, mouthwatering dishes to gorge on, and archaeological sites to uncover - it's easy to see why.
However, Jordan is still an emerging destination and travelling here is bound to stir up a few questions. But fear not, we've got you covered - With our Jordan on a Shoestring tour, nothing can go wrong. Plus, it's a tour on a budget!
Thee Jordan on a Shoestring tour is great value for money - it covers all the major sites including Amman, Jerash, Petra, the Dead Sea, a jeep safari, and Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum. It is by far the perfect introduction to this beautiful country.
The tour kicks off in the bustling capital of Amman - from touring the Downtown area, including the Citadel and 6,000 seat Roman Theatre before taking an afternoon tour out to the extensive and well-preserved Roman remains at Jerash.
Jerash is one of the world's most well-preserved Roman architecture sites outside of Italy. Hidden away from the world underneath sand for centuries, archaeological work over the past 70 years have revealed that Jerash was a fine example of Roman urbanism - with its beautifully paved and collonaded streets, hilltop temples, impressive theatres, public squares, and plazas.
Next on the agenda is to head south along the scenic King Highway towards Petra - also known as the Rose City - visiting Madaba, Mount Nebo, and the spectacular crusader castle at Kerak en route.
A full day is spent exploring the enchanting "Rose Red City" of Petra - starting with a walk through the narrow, winding Siq and then wonder at the majesty of the mighty Treasury, built more than 2,000 years ago. It will leave you speechless.
The morning will be spent with a guided tour of the site and then plenty of time to explore further on your own.
Continuing south, time will be spent with a memorable night under the stars in a Bedouin camp amidst the desert sands and huge cliffs and rocky outcrops of Wadi Rum - famous for its links with the British Army officer Lawrence of Arabia.
After a 4x4 jeep safari through the spectacular Wadi Rum scenery, another scenic drive can be expected - this time heading north along the banks of the Dead Sea.
The Dead Sea is flanked by mountains to the east and the rolling hills of Jerusalem to the west, giving it an almost otherworldly beauty.
Although sparsely populated and serenely quiet, the area is believed to have been home to five Biblical cities: Sodom, Gomorrah, Adman, Zebouin and Zoar.
Here, at the Dead Sea, we stop for a swim or float in its incredibly salty waters - an experience you'll never forget and one that is certainly hard to top.
After heading back to Amman, the day is yours free to explore and to catch up on some last-minute sightseeing or shopping before your departure flight.
Alternatively, you may wish to take one of several optional day trips. These include a full-day tour to the Baptism site at Bethany and Ajloun Castle, a trip to Pella and Umm Qais or a tour of the 'Desert Castles'.
We can also arrange a transfer to Tel Aviv either by flight or overland for people wanting to connect this tour with one of our Israel tours. We can also fly you to Cairo to join one of our Egypt tours.
Please ask us for details and we'll be delighted to help plan an extension to your tour.
Accommodation is in comfortable 3-star hotels in Amman and Petra, plus the Bedouin camp under the stars - beds and all bedding are provided.
A hotel upgrade option is available to the local 4/5-star level if you would like a more luxurious stay.
