This vast and geographically diverse region stretches from the islands of Japan in the east to the mountains of Georgia in the west. It includes exciting holiday destinations like the Himalayan jewel of Tibet, the endless grasslands of Mongolia and the ancient cities of China.

China has a wealth of hidden treasures just waiting to be discovered. The Great Wall stretches further than the eye can see, and stands testament to the ingenuity of man. The crumbling courtyards of the Forbidden City, the massive portrait of Mao staring out over Tiananmen Square and the bustling streets of Shanghai all add to the heady mix that is China. Far to the west, nestled in the Himalayas, lies the Tibetan city of Lhasa, the spiritual home of Buddhism, and to the south Taiwan stands defiant. In Japan, Tokyo's ancient cultures and modern technology mingle in the shape of pagoda temples and conveyor belt Sushi. Hong Kong's crowded streets offer high-end shopping and a taste of British colonial history. The wide empty expanses of Siberia are perfect for more intrepid explorers who want to get back in touch with nature. The western 'Stans' are made up of sparsely populated plains, where life passes slowly and adventure travellers can turn back the clock amongst nomads whose lifestyle hasn't changed for centuries.

This trip was about the same price as competitors but Encounters included the transfers and many meals. Some people may prefer to travel in local buses and stay in small hotels, but Encounters offers a more luxurious experience. On long hot days, the air con on the coach kept me going and I was delighted to take a swim in the hotel pool. The guide was brilliant, funny and engaging and managed to squeeze in some bonus excursions too.
Turkey was much greener and more modern than I expected. The historic sites were impressive and the tour went at the right pace. The hotels were all good quality, in good locations and had some impressive buffets. Of course there are plenty of ancient ruins, but each tells a different story so there were plenty of wow factors. My only regret was not giving myself more time in Istanbul.

Smooth organisation and communicative company - low stress holiday!
I wish we could have done this years ago! The small group concept works so much better than a big coach tour, providing both flexibility, good use of time and more personal attention from a first rate guide.

Good communication, questions answered promptly, documents in order. Very helpful.
Wonderful trip. Quality accommodation especially given the lower cost of the adventure. Well paced, very well taken care of by all staff. Amazing tour leader, Waleed Khamouna, PhD in Egyptology ... couldn't ask for more. Felt very secure the entire trip.

The service from our tour guide Ahmed Aboudy was amazing. Many people from home warned me not to go to Egypt due to it's safety, however our tour guide made me feel safe and secure throughout the entire trip. I always felt as if he was looking out for us and being extremely protective of us. This made me feel safer and also reassured my parents back home when I informed them about all the safety precautions our tour guide was taking for us.
The only issue I had was with the hotel in Cairo. I really did not like how there were many men smoking heavily in the lobby area. Especially as it was often unavoidable as our meetings and gatherings were located in the front lobby on numerous occasions.

Waleed our tour guide was beyond fabulous and catered for everyone's needs, nothing was too much for him. The service and information provided prior to the holiday was of an excellent standard and set the scene for the holiday. Being met at the airport upon arrival calmed everyone's nerves and set the standard of support for the remainder of the holiday.
A little rough and ready in places, overnight train and sleeping on the felucca, but still these and others are experiences that I would never have normally opted for but I am glad I did as I completely enjoyed them. The optional balloon ride, even if you are frightened of heights, like me, is a must.

Our video features aim to bring our adventure tours to life in a way that no photo can, giving you a great taste of the destination.
