Why book the Cairo Boutique Hotel Break?
The Cairo Boutique Hotel Break is our 4-day city break built around one of Egypt's most characterful small hotels: Le Riad Hotel de Charme, a restored Mamluk townhouse with 17 individually furnished suites in the heart of Old Cairo, directly facing the historic Beit el Sehemy. A half-day Pyramids and Sphinx tour with a dedicated Egyptologist is included, and a full menu of optional excursions lets you design the rest of your time. Departures are every Friday. It's the smartest way to spend 4 days in Cairo.
Is this tour suitable for first-time visitors to Egypt?
Yes. The Cairo Boutique Hotel Break is designed as a perfect introduction to Cairo. The included Pyramids and Sphinx tour with an Egyptologist gives you the essential, and the range of optional excursions (GEM, Khan el-Khalili, Luxor overnight, Cairo city tour) lets you build a programme tailored to your interests.
What's the difference between this and your other Egypt city breaks?
The Cairo Boutique Hotel Break (4 days) is built around Le Riad Hotel de Charme, a unique boutique property in Old Cairo. The Egyptian City Break (5 days) is a related 5-day option with more content. The Cairo City Break (4 days) is another 4-day option. The distinguishing feature of this tour is the hotel itself: 17 individually decorated suites in a historic Mamluk building, right in the heart of the old city.
What's the best time of year for the Cairo Boutique Hotel Break?
Cairo runs year-round. October to April is the most comfortable, with cooler temperatures ideal for sightseeing. June to August is very hot at the Pyramids. Winter departures (December to February) are popular; note that New Year's Eve includes a compulsory gala dinner at Le Riad.
Why does this tour cost what it does?
Le Riad Hotel de Charme is a genuinely special property: 17 individually furnished suites in a restored historic building, not a chain hotel. An Egyptologist guide for the Pyramids half-day is included, as are transfers and breakfast throughout. The price reflects the boutique hotel quality and the depth of the included experience.
What's actually included in the price?
Included: 3 nights at Le Riad Hotel de Charme in Old Cairo, all transfers, a half-day Pyramids and Sphinx tour with an Egyptologist, and 3 breakfasts. Entrance fees and guide or hotel tips are NOT included.
What's NOT included and how much extra should I budget?
Not included: international flights, entrance fees to the Pyramids complex (payable locally at current rates), tips for your guide and hotel staff, travel insurance, lunches, dinners, and personal expenses. Budget for the entrance fees and any optional excursions you choose to add. Your guide will brief current tipping amounts at the start.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. Pay a deposit to secure your booking and the balance is due 8 weeks before departure.
How physically demanding is the Cairo Boutique Hotel Break?
This is a very accessible trip. The main physical element is walking at the Pyramids complex, which involves sand and uneven ground. The optional Khan el-Khalili walk involves cobblestones. Cairo city traffic can be chaotic, but transfers handle the movement between locations.
What if I'm older than the rest of the group?
The Cairo Boutique Hotel Break is very well suited to older travellers. The pace is relaxed, the hotel is comfortable, and the half-day Pyramids tour is the most active element. You set your own schedule for the remaining days.
What if I have mobility issues or a medical condition?
The Pyramids site involves sand and uneven ground. Camels and horses for hire can reduce walking at the site, but the main viewing areas require some mobility. Le Riad Hotel de Charme is a traditional building with stairs; contact us to confirm room options if you have specific access requirements.
Is Egypt safe to visit right now?
Cairo is visited by millions of international tourists each year and the major sites are well-managed for visitors. Check your government's current travel advice before booking.
Is Cairo safe for women travelling solo?
Cairo is very manageable for solo female travellers, particularly when staying in a well-located boutique hotel with organised excursions. Le Riad Hotel de Charme is in the heart of Old Cairo and the local staff are helpful and experienced with solo guests. Modest dress near religious and historical sites is respectful.
What happens if I get sick on tour?
Cairo has private hospitals with English-speaking staff. The hotel can assist with referrals. Travel insurance covering medical expenses and emergency repatriation is compulsory.
Will I be hassled by vendors at the Pyramids?
Vendor activity around the Giza Plateau is well-known. Your Egyptologist guide will help you manage approaches and knows the most efficient ways to navigate the site. It's manageable with guidance.
