Why book the A Week in Jordan tour?
A Week in Jordan packs the country's greatest highlights into 8 days without feeling rushed. You walk the Roman columns of Jerash, follow the King's Highway through Madaba mosaics and Mount Nebo viewpoints to Shobak Castle, spend a full day inside the rose-red city of Petra, overnight under the stars at a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum after a 4x4 jeep safari, float effortlessly in the Dead Sea, and finish with a morning visiting the Umayyad Desert Castles and the Azraq Wetland and Shaumari Wildlife Reserve. Groups go up to 18, and the Jordan Pass covers your visa and most entrance fees in one.
Is this tour suitable for first-time visitors to Jordan?
Yes. The itinerary is designed as a comprehensive introduction to Jordan, covering the country's UNESCO sites, Roman heritage, biblical landmarks, Nabataean archaeology, desert landscapes, and conservation areas. Your professional guide provides context at each site and the pace balances culture with moments to simply take it all in.
What is the difference between A Week in Jordan and your other Jordan tours?
A Week in Jordan is the most comprehensive 8-day option. Best of Jordan removes the Desert Castles day to create a slightly more relaxed 8-day itinerary. Jordan Express is a streamlined 6-day tour for those with less time, removing both the Desert Castles and the As-Salt day. Jordan & Egypt Explorer extends the journey by adding 9 days of Egypt. Petra & Dubai combines 6 days in Jordan with 4 nights in Dubai for a 10-day total. A Week in Jordan is the right choice if you want the full breadth of Jordan's culture, nature, and conservation sites.
What is the best time of year to visit Jordan?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer the most comfortable temperatures, typically 18-28 degrees C, and are peak booking periods. Summer (June to August) is very hot, particularly in Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea area, but Petra is manageable in early morning. Winter (December to February) is cooler, occasionally rainy, and requires a jacket for evenings. The tour runs year-round.
Why does this tour cost what it does?
We get it, you can find cheaper Jordan packages. The difference is in the detail: all accommodation is 4-star (with an upgrade to superior 4/5-star hotels available), the Wadi Rum Bedouin camp stay and 4x4 jeep safari are included, the As-Salt Daily Life Trail with a home-cooked lunch, the Amman street food tasting, the Wild Jordan Centre visit, the Dead Sea overnight stay with beach entry and towel are all in the price. Your Jordan Pass, which covers visa fees and entrance to Petra and most sites, is excluded but covers a substantial portion of your visit costs in a single purchase.
What is actually included in the price?
Included: 4-star hotel accommodation throughout plus 1 night in a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum, all transport and transfers in AC minibus and Bedouin jeeps, 24-hour airport service, a professional local guide throughout, the As-Salt Daily Life Trail, a 4x4 jeep safari in Wadi Rum, Dead Sea overnight stay with beach entry, the Amman Food Tasting experience, and 7 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 1 dinner.
What is NOT included and how much extra should I budget?
We do not include international flights, visa and monument entrance fees (which are conveniently covered if you purchase the Jordan Pass prior to travel), travel insurance, meals not shown in the itinerary, drinks, personal expenses, optional activities (such as hot air ballooning or camel rides), and tips for your tour leader and driver. We recommend budgeting approximately $25–$40 USD (approx. 18–30 JOD) per day for unincluded meals, drinks, and incidentals, plus extra for personal shopping and tips.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. Pay a deposit to hold your place and pay the balance 8 weeks before departure. A reserve-now-pay-later option is available if you want to lock in dates before committing the full deposit.
How physically demanding is this tour?
Moderate. Petra is the most demanding day: the minimum walking distance from the entrance through the Siq to the Treasury and back is 3km, and reaching the Monastery involves over 800 steps up and down. Wadi Rum involves comfortable jeep riding plus optional camel or quad activities. The rest of the tour is sightseeing with moderate walking. Comfortable shoes are essential.
What if I am older than the rest of the group?
Jordan suits a wide age range and the group maximum of 18 means the guide can accommodate different walking paces. In Petra, golf buggies are available locally to take you through the Siq if the full walk is too long. The Dead Sea day is completely relaxed. Guests in their 70s are regulars on this tour.
What if I have mobility issues or a medical condition?
The Siq in Petra has an uneven path and the route to the Monastery involves hundreds of steps. Guests with mobility difficulties can still visit the Treasury via buggy and see much of the main basin. Wadi Rum's terrain is sandy desert and jeep-based. Share your specific situation with us and we will advise on what adjustments are possible.
How hot does it get in Jordan?
Summer temperatures in Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea area can exceed 40 degrees C. The King's Highway and higher elevations are more comfortable. Spring and autumn average 20-28 degrees C across most of the country. The Dead Sea is 400 metres below sea level and feels significantly hotter than elsewhere even in spring. Pack sun protection, a hat, and light cotton clothing.
Is Jordan safe to visit right now?
Jordan is consistently ranked among the Middle East's most politically stable countries and is a popular destination for international tourism. The country has a strong security infrastructure and a reputation for hospitality. Monitor your government's travel advice before departure, as regional events can affect advice. Your guide will brief you on any current local considerations.
Is it safe for women travelling solo?
Yes. Jordan is widely considered one of the safest countries in the Middle East for solo women. Locals are helpful and respectful. Dressing modestly (covering shoulders and knees outside of the Dead Sea and Aqaba beach areas) is culturally appropriate and will help you feel more comfortable. Your guide is always available for advice or assistance.
What happens if I get sick on tour?
Amman has good international-standard hospitals. Medical facilities are more limited in Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea area. Travel insurance with medical coverage and emergency evacuation is compulsory. Keep your policy details with you at all times.
Will I be hassled by vendors and touts?
Petra attracts vendors outside and along the entry road. Horse owners at the entrance can be persistent, and we recommend walking rather than accepting horse rides due to animal welfare concerns. Your guide will help you navigate any pressure. Wadi Rum and the nature reserves are calm environments. Generally, Jordan's tourism industry is well managed and hassle is lower than many comparable destinations.
What is the accommodation actually like?
All hotels are 4-star throughout, with air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, and Wi-Fi. The standard package includes 4-star properties in Amman, Petra, and the Dead Sea. An upgrade to superior 4/5-star hotels in Amman and Petra is available. The Wadi Rum night is spent in a comfortable Bedouin camp under the desert sky: the experience is consistent across both accommodation packages and is considered a tour highlight regardless.
What is the Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum like?
The Bedouin camp is nestled beneath towering sandstone cliffs in Wadi Rum. You sleep in a furnished tent or basic stone room with bedding provided. The camp offers a traditional Jordanian dinner and in the evening, an optional astronomy session takes advantage of Wadi Rum's exceptionally clear desert skies. Shared bathroom facilities are available. It is a memorable experience rather than a luxury hotel.
Will I have Wi-Fi?
4-star hotels in Amman, Petra, and at the Dead Sea all have reliable Wi-Fi. The Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum has limited or no Wi-Fi and potentially no mobile signal. This is part of the wilderness appeal.
Can I upgrade?
Yes. A superior hotel package is available that upgrades Amman and Petra to 4/5-star properties. The Dead Sea resort standard also improves with the superior package. Contact us for a quote on the upgrade.
What kind of food will we eat?
The Amman street food tasting includes Kunefa (a sweet semolina and cheese dessert), refreshing sugar cane juice, and falafel. The As-Salt day includes a home-cooked lunch with a local family, introducing you to traditional Jordanian home cooking. Wadi Rum dinner is a traditional Bedouin zarb meal (slow-cooked meat and vegetables in an underground oven). Jordan's cuisine is flavourful, mezze-heavy, and welcoming to most tastes.
Can you cater for vegetarian or vegan diets?
Yes, we are delighted to cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary requirements wherever possible! Simply let us know your dietary preferences or allergies at the time of booking so our team can notify our tour leaders, hotels, and restaurants in advance. While meal options in more remote areas may be simpler, we always do our utmost to ensure you enjoy plentiful, delicious, and authentic local food throughout your adventure with us.
Is it safe to drink the water?
Tap water is technically treated in Jordan but is not recommended for drinking. Stick to bottled water or use a Water-to-Go filter bottle from hotel water supplies. Your hotels will provide bottled water, and restaurants use filtered or bottled water for cooking and drinks.
Is this trip good for solo travellers?
Yes. The group maximum of 18 creates a sociable dynamic and Jordan's cultural richness generates plenty of shared conversation. A single supplement is available for solo room occupancy.
Do I have to share a room?
The price assumes two people sharing. Solo travellers can add a single supplement for their own room throughout. The Bedouin camp accommodation involves individual tent-style rooms and is suitable for solos.
What is the group size and who will be on the trip?
Minimum 2, maximum 18. A professional English-speaking local guide accompanies the group throughout all 8 days. The demographic is typically couples and solo travellers aged 30-65 with an interest in history and culture.
Can I book this as a private tour?
Yes. The tour can run privately for your own group on flexible dates with the option to customise accommodation or the itinerary. Contact us for a private departure quotation.
Is this tour suitable for kids?
Jordan is a family-friendly destination and the mix of Roman ruins, Petra exploration, jeep safari, and Dead Sea floating appeals to older children and teenagers. There is no stated minimum age. For families with younger children, a private tour gives you more control over the pace.
Do I need a visa for Jordan?
The Jordan Pass includes your visa on arrival and covers entrance to Petra and most major sites in a single purchase. This is by far the most cost-effective and convenient option for most visitors. Check the official Jordan Pass website for current prices and eligibility. Your guide will confirm the process before arrival.
What should I pack?
Light, modest clothing that covers knees and shoulders for most sightseeing (Jordan is a conservative Muslim-majority country). Comfortable walking shoes with good grip for Petra's rocky terrain. A warm layer for evenings and air-conditioned transport. Swimwear for the Dead Sea. Sunhat and high-factor sunscreen. Jordan uses Type B, C, D, F, G, and J sockets at 230 volts.
Are any vaccinations required?
No vaccinations are currently mandatory for Jordan, but Hepatitis A and Tetanus are recommended. Consult your GP or a travel clinic for up-to-date advice before departure.
Do I need to book international flights through you?
No. Flights to Amman's Queen Alia International Airport are not included. We include the 24-hour airport arrival and departure transfer. We are happy to suggest flight options on request.
What about tipping?
Tipping is expected but not obligatory in Jordan's tourism sector. Your guide will brief the group on appropriate amounts for guides, drivers, and Bedouin hosts at the start of the tour. Tips are not included in the tour price.
Can I do Petra by Candlelight (Petra by Night)?
Yes. Petra by Night is an optional add-on on Day 4, where you walk through the Siq to see the Treasury illuminated solely by candles. Pre-booking is essential as it is very popular and space is limited.
Can I do the Petra Kitchen cooking class?
Yes. The Petra Kitchen cooking class on Day 4 evening teaches you to prepare traditional Jordanian dishes. Pre-booking is essential as spaces fill quickly.
Can I do the Wadi Mujib Siq Trail?
Yes. The Wadi Mujib Siq Trail is an optional add-on, typically available from April to October, involving a canyon wade through water-filled gorges. It is bookable on Day 6 or on departure day.
Can I add a hot air balloon camel ride?
Yes! While staying in Wadi Rum on Day 5, you can add incredible optional activities including a sunrise Hot Air Balloon Flight over the dramatic sandstone desert or a traditional Bedouin Camel Ride across the red dunes. You can easily pre-book these with us when making your reservation or arrange them through our local team before you travel.
Can I extend into Egypt?
Yes. The Jordan & Egypt Explorer combines this Jordan itinerary (without the Desert Castles day) with 9 days in Egypt, covering the Pyramids, Nile cruise, Luxor, and Sinai. Contact us to discuss combining the two.
How far ahead should I book?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are peak Jordan seasons and popular dates fill up 3-4 months ahead. Christmas and New Year departures also sell quickly. Book at least 2 months ahead outside peak periods.
How does booking work?
Reserve online via the Dates and Prices tab. Choose standard or superior accommodation level. Pay a deposit, full amount, or hold your reservation. The balance is due 8 weeks before departure. You receive instant confirmation and a full trip pack.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, travel insurance is mandatory on this tour. Cover must include medical expenses and emergency evacuation. World Nomads is a recommended partner.
What is your cancellation policy?
A sliding-scale cancellation fee applies. Full terms are in our booking conditions on the website. We are UK-registered and your funds are protected by Trust My Travel insurance.
What if my preferred dates are sold out?
Contact us. We run fortnightly departures throughout the year and can often add capacity or arrange a private departure. The Best of Jordan (8 days without Desert Castles), Jordan Express (6 days), and Jordan & Egypt Explorer are also worth considering.
