Spent 2 weeks in Jordan and Egypt with us on our Petra and the Nile tour, seeing all the main sites in Jordan including Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea, followed by the Pyramids and Sphinx in Cairo and a luxury Nile Cruise.
We begin in Amman in Jordan and visit the Greco-Roman site of Jerash just outside the city, one of the best preserved ancient sites in the Middle East. We'll then head south on the scenic Kings Highway through central Jordan, stopping on the way to see the mosaic map of the Holy Land in Madaba, enjoy the views over Israel from Mount Nebo, and to marvel at the huge valley of Wadi Mujib. After a final stop for lunch and to explore the huge crusader castle at Kerak we continue on to Petra where you have the option of taking the Petra by Candlelight option during the evening. We'll start early the next morning to explore Jordan's most famous attraction, the hidden 'Rose Red' Nabatean city of Petra. The morning will be spent with a guided tour through the Siq to the Treasury and into the heart of the site. After lunch you then have time to explore independently and perhaps hike up to the impressive Monastery, and to see the incredible views over Wadi Araba. Late in the afternoon we then drive to the nearby deserts at Wadi Rum, arriving in time for an optional sunset camel ride. We spend the night in a comfortable Bedoin camp here, and spend a couple of hours on a jeep safari through the sands and around the cliffs the next morning before heading north again back to Amman. Our final stop is for a swim, or float, in the incredibly salty waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth.
After traveling on to Cairo, you'll visit the Pyramids, Sphinx and the Step Pyramid at Saqqara. You then take a short internal flight to Luxor to enjoy a 4-night cruise through the Nile Valley on a 5-star cruise ship from Luxor to Aswan. En-route you'll visit the temples at Edfu and Komombo while watching typical rural Egyptian life pass you by from the sun deck of the boat. From Aswan you will visit the beautiful island temple of Philae and enjoy a felucca sailboat trip on the Nile before we fly you back to Cairo. We end in Cairo with a trip to the famous Egyptian Museum which holds the treasures of Tutankhamun's tomb.
Accommodation is in comfortable mid-range hotels in JOrdan, Bedouin tents with proper beds in Wadi Rum, 5 star hotels in Cairo and a 5-star NIle cruise between Luxor and Aswan.

Hotel Gala Dinners
Many of Egypt and Jordan's hotels arrange a very special gala dinner with entertainment in the evening on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Payment for these is often optional on Christmas Eve (24 Dec) but normally compulsory on New Year's Eve (31 Dec), whether you attend or not. Prices can range from around US$50 to over US$180 per person in 5-star hotels. Final decisions on prices and whether dinners are compulsory are made relatively close to the time. We aim to always select hotels that make their Gala Dinners optional, though this is not always possible, especially for New Year's Eve. Gala dinner prices are therefore not included in our prices above, but will be added to your booking if they become required. Please budget accordingly. More information is available on request.
