Tibet is truly the roof of the world, perched high in the Himalaya Mountains and stretching out across the Tibetan Plateau, it is famous for its stunning landscapes, historic architecture and unique Tibetan culture. With some of the highest mountains in the world, including a share of Mt Everest, and a long and deeply rooted Buddhist culture, this beautiful but harsh country makes an interesting and challenging destination to visit.
Tibet has a long list of ancient and fascinating places to visit. You can spend your time visiting, monasteries, temples, ancient villages, high altitude lakes and enjoy splendid mountain views. The capital city Lhasa, which literally means "Holy Land" is the heart of the country and offers plenty to see and do, including a trip to the spectacular Potala Palace, walking tours along Barkhor Street, and a visit to Drepung Monastery, one of the largest in the world. Excursions out of Lhasa include a visit to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet and beautifully ornate Tashilhunpo Monastery. Gorgeous turquoise blue lakes nestle in hidden valleys and high altitude passes connect the many winding river valleys, dotted with traditional villages and ornate monasteries all of which make great place to stop and send time relaxing and meeting the wonderfully friendly locals.
More active travellers can enjoy fantastic trekking, rafting and mountain biking. Treks to Everest Base camp are popular and a visit to the famous Rongbuk monastery is a highlight of the trek. With a large number of world class rafting rivers, Tibet has plenty of challenging river trips available, and mountain biking is also a popular activity to try.

My experience with Encounters was excellent from start to finish. The Tour Guide, Sheriff, was the most passionate, enthusiastic and professional guide I have ever had on a tour and his love for Egypt really made me enjoy my time so much more.
Everything about the trip was thought through, fine-tuned , and marvelous. From Ant Horribin helping us arrange the trip, to rep Waled Ali, and our guide Big Mo, we could not have asked for a better team. Our sincere thanks to them.
Anthony has been amazing throughout my planning of my tour. He has been very quick in replying to my emails and always answering with everything I wanted to know.
I look forward to hopefully planning my next trip through him next year!
I was pleased and impressed with the experience in booking and obtain all necessary documents in a timely manner. I am looking forward to my tour and hope the ground experience it just as good. This trip is my dream/bucket list trip.
I liked the fact we were met at the airport and helped thru customs and getting a visa and then upon leaving taken to where we needed to go. Its always tough to figure out where everything is in a foreign airport when you do not travel much
Everything was great. Our guide was very knowledgeable and liked that we were interested in what he was telling us. We were lucky to be in a group with like minded people who also wanted to stay in places longer of which our guide accommodated. Only negative thing was the sitting train. Best to just take the flying option. Train was not bad but has no services, no alcohol, and breakfast was all carbs and an egg. Egypt really seems to like their breads and pastries....
