2100m to 2750m or 6900ft to 9000ft About 3 hours hiking After breakfast and briefing, drive to Londorossi Park Gate (2250m, 2.5 hours). From here a forest track requiring a 4WD vehicle leads to Lemosho Glades (2100m, 11km, 45 minutes) and a possible campsite (park fees are not paid to camp here). Walk along forest trails to Mti Mkubwa (big tree) campsite.

2750m to 3500m or 9000ft to 11,500ft About 5 hours After breakfast, we continue as the trail gradually steepens and enters the giant heather moorland zone. Several streams are crossed then it gains the Shira Ridge at about 3600m and drops gently down to Shira 1 camp located by a stream on the Shira Plateau.

3500 - 4205m About 5 - 7 hours Trek across the Shira plateau, east toward Kibo’s glaciered peak. Shira is one of the highest plateaus on earth, averaging 12,500 feet. We immediately veer away from the tourist trails toward the northeast edge of the Plateau to reach Moir Camp. Moir camp is an isolated and seldom used camp affording views over the Shira Plateau.

4205 - 4025m About 5 - 7 hours Begin the morning trek heading out of the moorland and into the stark alpine desert, on a steep ridge off the main trail, and begin our venture on the Northern Circuit Route. From the Pofu Campsite you will enjoy a magnificent view into Kenya's wild lands to the north.

4025 - 3600m About 5 - 7 hours Proceed onward through valleys and over ridges through the alpine desert and moorland, continuing our circuit to the east, enjoying a vast mountain wilderness to ourselves. A resupply of fresh food and supplies will reach camp on this afternoon.

3600 - 4700m About 4 - 6 hours Trek steadily upward through valleys and over ridges onto the Alpine desert and moorland, enjoying a vast and empty mountain wilderness. The temperatures turn cold as you near the foot of Kibo, reaching Kibo Camp. Prepare all your gear for the day ahead, and turn in early to rest.

4750 - 5895m and down to 3110m About 7 - 8 hours to the summit. A midnight wake-up call is the start of a long trek. Begin trekking at 1am up the winding path. From the camp to the rim of the crater (Gillman’s Point to Uhuru Peak the slope is steep, with endless switchbacks, over loose rock and scree with some boulders on the approach to Gilman’s Point. Stop at Hans Meyer cave on the way, the famous place which Kilimanjaro's first western climber described in his journals. Once past Gilman’s Point at the edge of the crater, the trail to the summit is less demanding, and is reached after a further hike along the snowy crater rim (depending on the season). After a short time at the summit, descend via Gilman’s Point to Mweka Camp for the night.

3110 - 1830m About 2 -3 hours. Descend straight to the Mweka gate for a well-earned lunch and awarding of the climbing certificates. Transfer by road to Moshi.
